VASJ's Flannigan commits to Cleveland State
Cleveland State has landed its first recruit in the class of 2013.
Demonte Flannigan, a power forward from Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, has pledged a verbal commitment to CSU on Sunday, according to Michael Duncan.
The 6-8, 240-pound Flannigan took an official visit to CSU over the weekend. He chose the Vikings over offers from DePaul, Wisconsin, St. Bonaventure, Miami (Fla.), Xavier and Akron, among others.
Flannigan, a senior, is rated a three-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Scout.com.
"Every school who offered wanted me," Flannigan told the News-Herald. "The biggest difference is Coach (Gary) Waters said he needs me. He wants me to come in and be a big part of what they are doing there."
A three-time first team all-state selection, Flannigan averaged 16.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocked shots per game last season as a junior. He averaged 15.8 points and 11.3 rebounds as a sophomore.
The Vikings have one more scholarship to offer in the class of 2013. They're looking to add a center with the final scholarship.
