Rob Edwards earns Horizon League Freshman of the Week

Cleveland State freshman Rob Edwards earned Horizon League Freshman of the Week. The conference announced the honor today.

Edward, a 6-foot-4 guard out of Detroit, Mich., averaged 12.7 points per game in CSU's three games last week.

His career-high 17 points helped CSU defeat Rider in Cancun and earned him a spot on the Cancun Challenge Mayan Division All-Tournament team.

He followed up his performance in Cancun, scoring 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a loss to No. 2 Maryland on Saturday night.

Edwards closed out the first month of his career, averaging 10.7 points per game and leads the program with 2.2 steals.

He'll take the floor with CSU (2-3) again on Wednesday night at Toledo. The Vikings return home to host Kent State at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the first of five games at the Q.

Myles Hamilton Could Make Cleveland State debut Tuesday

Cleveland State's struggling offense could get a boost Tuesday as Myles Hamilton could make his Vikings debut against Rider in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico (12:30 p.m., YouTube).

"He should be ready to go for the Rider game," Vikings head coach Gary Waters said last week at his media gathering.

Hamilton, a Kennessaw State transfer, has been suspended for the first three games for a violation of team rules.

Cleveland State signs Clayborne, Lucien

Cleveland State coach Gary Waters officially announced the signings of Evan Clayborne and Andy Lucien on Thursday afternoon at his media gathering.

"Clayborne is a shot blocker and Lucien is a shooter," said Waters.

Cleveland State 62, Malone 46: Vikings gets first win of season in home opener

Flannigan has 22 points, 17 rebounds in CSU win

The Cleveland State men's basketball team earned its first victory of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Malone, 62-46, at the Wolstein Center.

The game was much closer then the final score would indicate.

It took CSU (1-1) nearly 24 minutes to find its offense.

Trailing, 29-24 with 16:44 to go, CSU turned to its defense to create some offense.

Coming out of the timeout, the Vikings went on a 19-1 run to take a 43-30 advantage and never looked back.

Lucien Signs with Cleveland State

Andy Lucien officially signed his Letter of Intent with Cleveland State on Friday.

Lucien, a 6-foot-7 forward from North Olmsted, averaged 18.5 points and eight rebounds per game as a junior.

He plays center in high school. but is projected to be a stretch four in college.

Lucien also received offers from Ohio and UNC-Ashville, as well as interest from several DII programs.

He joins Evan Clayborne, who signed with CSU on Thursday in Gary Waters' class of 2016.

Clayborne Signs with Cleveland State

Evan Clayborne became the first of Cleveland State's two verbal commitments to sign with the Vikings.

Clayborne signed his Letter of Intent on Thursday afternoon at a press conference at Dayton Thurgood Marshall High School.

A 6-foot-7 post player, Clayborne averaged 6.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.9 blocked shots as a junior for Dayton Dunbar High School.

Clayborne has transferred to Dayton Thurgood Marshall for his senior season.

CSU is still waiting to receive a LOI from Andy Lucien.

Cleveland State suspends Myles Hamilton

Myles Hamilton's debut at Cleveland State will be delayed.

The team announced on Wednesday that Hamilton has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

"[There's] a great possibility you won't see him all of November," Vikings head coach Gary Waters said at his media gathering on Wednesday.
